Internet, with many finding aids
Catalogs and other finding aids for the Internet
The Internet is not a system controlled by authority schemes, authorized
vocabularies, or a cataloging philosophy. It is, however, useful to
those who take the care to understand its limitations. The number and
scope of its holdings vastly, by orders of magnitude, outweighs the
world’s libraries. The world’s libraries are, in fact, part
of the Internet. There are however gray and dark portions of the Internet
which cannot be found outside the library. These items either require
purchase to use or cannot be located in Internet search tools.
